Orbis Diagnostics Limited (“Orbis”) is developing in-line milking measurement for protein, fat, somatic cell and progesterone. Dairy farmers need to determine ratios and concentration of milk solids (protein and fat) for which they are paid, detect early signs of bovine mastitis through somatic cell counts; and improve reproduction through progesterone monitoring. Orbis’ microfluidic technology is expected to measure more parameters, be more accurate and timely than existing practice, providing the farmer with actionable insight for each cow in their milking herd.

Orbis has secured interest from one of the world’s leading milking equipment companies. Orbis is discussing providing a license to Orbis’ technology for the use with milking apparatus, at the end of a planned 18-month development project. If successful, Orbis expects a license to include a significant upfront payment on licensing, a double digit royalty and annual minimum royalty payments. Orbis expects to retain the right for its IP for other applications.
