Co-founded by Pacific Channel in February 2016, Orbis Diagnostics Limited (“Orbis”) is developing a solution to enable dairy farmers to determine ratios and concentration of milk solids against which they are paid. This technology is also expected enable the detection of early signs of bovine mastitis through somatic cell counts and improve reproduction through progesterone monitoring. Orbis achieves this through its revolutionary in-line milking measurement, utilising microfluidics, for protein, fat, somatic cell and progesterone. Orbis’ microfluidic technology is expected to be richer, more accurate and timely than existing practice providing the farmer with actionable insight for each cow in their milking herd.
Orbis has secured interest from one of the world’s leading milking equipment companies. The company is in discussions to provide an option to license its technology for use with milking apparatus once an 18-month development project is complete. The agreement is expected to include a significant payment on licensing, a double digit royalty and annual minimum royalty payments.
