The New Zealand Government has confirmed the Active Investor Plus (AIP) visa programme will be revised to make it more accessible while still encouraging meaningful investments in New Zealand’s economy.
From 1 April 2025, the revised AIP visa programme will include:
- Two simplified investment categories:
- Growth: Applicants must invest NZD$5m in approved managed funds and/or direct investments and must spend at least 21 days in New Zealand over a 3-year period.
- Balanced: Applicants must invest NZD$10m in acceptable investments and spend at least 105 days in New Zealand over a 5-year period. Acceptable investments include: bonds, listed equities, philanthropy, property (new residential, new/existing commercial or industrial developments) and Growth Category acceptable investments.
- Fewer immigration requirements for migrants who choose more active investments (such as time required to be spent in New Zealand).
- Reducing the time visa holders must make their investments in New Zealand, both categories must make all investments within six months of their approval in principle, and
- Removing the English language requirement.
With these changes, the New Zealand Government is aiming to attract a larger pool of investors who want to invest and live in New Zealand, benefiting both the local economy and prospective residents.
The new AIP Programme will open for applications on 1 April 2025. For more information please get in touch with one of our team.
